D’art Duvar is proud to reveal the official poster design for Leo Las Olas, the latest short film from acclaimed Ecuadorian filmmaker Emilio Subia—and now an official selection of the Bogotá Short Film Festival / Festival de Cortos de Bogotá – BOGOSHORTS (Dec 2–9, 2025).
Subia, known for his emotionally sharp filmmaking, continues to establish himself as a dynamic voice in contemporary cinema. His work—spanning fiction and documentary—frequently navigates topics of sexuality, immigration, and family dynamics. As the cinematographer behind Ciudad a la Espalda (2023), which premiered at FICG, and the director of Ñaños (2022), which debuted at Tribeca and went on to win awards across multiple continents, Subia has earned recognition including the Collin Higgins Filmmaker Grant. He is also a current fellow of the UFO Short Film Lab.
His new film, Leo Las Olas (formerly WAVES), continues this trajectory with a powerful and unsettling narrative. The story follows Leo, an Ecuadorian immigrant spending a fraught weekend with his soon-to-be American stepbrother Shane and Shane’s girlfriend Emma at their home on the cliffs of Northern California. What begins as an awkward attempt to bond quickly unravels into a tense exploration of belonging, microaggressions, and fractured trust. When the couple’s dog goes missing, the rising pressure pushes Leo toward a decision that will irreversibly reshape his relationship with the family.
After years of development, screenings, and creative exploration—including Subia’s attendance at the Cannes Film Festival and a national grant from Ecuador to develop his first feature—the film now celebrates a major milestone with its selection for BOGOSHORTS, one of the world’s leading short-film festivals and an official qualifier for the Academy Awards and the Goya Awards. Each December, the festival gathers around 400 films from across the globe and hosts industry events, artistic exhibitions, and educational programs, standing as one of the most respected platforms for short-form cinema.
For this special moment, D’art Duvar partnered with the team to craft a compelling visual identity for the film. The newly released poster captures the emotional tension and atmospheric isolation at the heart of Leo Las Olas, blending cinematic mood with a design that reflects both the film’s psychological depth and its coastal setting. The agency’s role in shaping the film’s public-facing presence marks a celebratory step in its ongoing collaboration with international filmmakers.
As Leo Las Olas prepares for its South American festival debut, the team moves forward with renewed momentum. Recent private screenings for the cast, crew, and supporters have energized the journey ahead, and the filmmakers continue to submit the project to festivals around the world.
D’art Duvar congratulates Emilio Subia and the entire team on this achievement—and looks forward to seeing Leo Las Olas connect with audiences in Bogotá and beyond.
